Mary (Hilton) and Mike McEvilly met in August 1978 at a Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity party.

As students, the two enjoyed volunteering at the concession stand at Miner football games for the Intercollegiate Knights, and attending Kappa Delta and Tau Kappa Epsilon functions.
“We still have many friends as a result of our experience at UMR, at the time,” he says. “Many sorority and fraternity sisters and brothers are still considered our friends, and we’ve maintained contact throughout the years.”
Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1980 and a master’s degree in engineering management in 1981. Mary earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering management in 1981. The couple married in May 1980.
Their relationship advice?
“Enjoy life as you go, communicate and have patience,” he says.
